Copilot Scheduled Prompts: 10 Worth Setting Up (and Why They Don't Run)
The short answer: a scheduled prompt is a Copilot prompt that runs by itself at the time you choose, and the answer waits for you in your chat list. You need a paid Copilot licence, and it works in Copilot Chat, Copilot in Teams, and Outlook on the web and desktop. You get up to 10.

How to schedule a prompt in Copilot
1Run the prompt once
Write it, run it, and make sure you like the answer. There's no point scheduling a prompt you haven't tested.
2Hover and schedule
Hover over the prompt and select Schedule this prompt. Choose when it runs, how many times, and whether you want an email when the response is ready. Select Save.
3Find the results
Scheduled prompts show up bolded, with an icon in front of them, in your chats list.
4Manage them
Select ... Settings and more at the top right of the Copilot app, then Scheduled prompts. From there: Run now, Edit Schedule, Turn off, or Delete.
10 scheduled prompts worth setting up
Microsoft's own 3 scenarios are an 8 AM prep, a Wednesday follow-up reminder, and an end-of-day list of action items and decisions. Solid. Here's my full list of 10, built around the same idea: the boring recurring catch-up you'd otherwise skip.
Summarize today's meetings, who's in them, and anything I was sent about them in the last 3 days. Tell me which one I should prepare for most.
List the emails from last week that ask me a direct question and that I haven't answered. Oldest first.
Remind me of messages and tasks from Monday and Tuesday that still need a follow-up from me.
Summarize the decisions and action items from today's meetings and chats, with the owner and due date when someone said one.
Draft a 5-line weekly update for my manager from my emails, meetings and files this week. Facts only, no adjectives.
Which of my meetings next week have no agenda? List them with the organiser, so I can ask before Monday.
Catch me up on everything about [client] in my email and Teams chats this week: requests, promises we made, and open questions.
Prepare notes for my 1:1 with [name]: what we discussed last time, what they sent me since, and open items.
Summarize what changed in [project] this month from emails, chats and files: decisions, risks raised and open questions.
List the documents people shared with me or mentioned in chats this month about [topic], grouped by who shared them.

Copilot scheduled prompts not working? The fix list
1No paid licence
Microsoft says a Microsoft Copilot licence is required. Free Copilot Chat alone won't do it.
2The licence is missing an app
For admins: the user needs a Copilot licence with the Microsoft Copilot with Graph-grounded chat app assigned, or they won't be provisioned for scheduled prompts.
3Connected experiences are off
If an admin disables connected experiences, no one in the organisation can see scheduled prompts. Since August 2026, scheduled prompts sit under Connected Experiences instead of Optional Connected Experiences, so this is the setting to check.
4You turned it off yourself
Users can individually turn off connected experiences, even when the admin has them on. So if a colleague sees them and you don't, this is a likely suspect.
5Old prompts you can't touch
After connected experiences are disabled, previously scheduled prompts keep running until their schedule finishes, but you can't manage them. Confusing, but documented.
6You hit 10
Copilot Chat allows up to 10 scheduled prompts. Cowork has its own separate scheduled prompts, up to 25. Different feature, different limit.
7Wrong app
Scheduling works in Copilot Chat, Copilot in Teams, and Outlook for the web and desktop. Look there.
What to check in the answers
A scheduled prompt feels like a report. It's still a Copilot answer. Microsoft notes that the same prompt can give different responses, so Monday's format may not match Friday's.
2 habits help. Put the format in the prompt itself (headings, number of lines, oldest first). And set up custom instructions so every answer follows your house rules, scheduled or not.
Then read the first 3 runs properly before you start trusting the skim. I have no commercial interest in Microsoft, for the record. I just hate Monday mornings without a list.
